World Drug Day: Assam police seize drugs worth Rs 1,430 Cr in last 2 years

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma urged everyone to take a pledge to fight and defeat the menace of drugs
In a significant success for the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led Assam Government’s war on drugs campaign, Assam police have seized drugs worth Rs 1,430 crore in the past two years, according to the statistics shared by the Assam Government.
In the last two years, Assam police has seized- 239 kg of heroin, 71902 kg of ganja, 283 kg of opium, 98.68 lakh psychotropic tablets, 4.78 lakh cough syrup bottles, 214 kg of cannabis and 40 kg of cocaine, these statistics were shared by Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Twitter.

On the World Drug Day or International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking today, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has once highlighted his government’s pledge to fight and defeat the menace of drugs in the state.
Highlighting the Assam government’s efforts and steps taken to dismantle the entire drugs network and bring smiles back on the faces of people in the state CM Sarma urged everyone to take a pledge to fight and defeat the menace of drugs.
“Consumption of Drugs is a societal evil. We have taken stern measures in the recent past to dismantle the entire drugs network and bring back happiness into the faces of many. On #InternationalDayAgainstDrugAbuse, let us take a pledge to fight & defeat the menace of drugs,” CM Sarma tweeted.
Assam has the dubious distinction of having at least 3,00,000 drug addicts, of which 50,000 are in Guwahati, according to the statistics disclosed at a panel discussion organised by Guwahati
Management Association (GMA) in Guwahati yesterday, June 25.
