Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik on Thursday said that he would move the Centre for the implementation of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA).
Talking exclusively to Northeast Live, the Meghalaya Governor said that he would try to convince Union Home Minister Amit Shah in this regard.
“My visit is to meet Home Minister Amit Shah, as I met the Prime Minister on my last visit. I will talk to the Home Minister as this act can be passed. This act comes in my purview and I will try to convince the Home Minister that this act can be considered and can be passed,” said Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik.
Governor Malik added that the matter pertaining to the MRSSA is with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma as the last governor had sent it to the CM for the reference of President Ram Nath Kovind.
Expressing his views on the growing demand for implementing ILP in the state, Malik said that he doesn’t have fixed views on it as of now since he is studying the whole matter.
“I am studying the whole matter, a few are against it but as it is a demand of the people and I am here for the people. So, I will do whatever I can but it is between the people who are demanding and the Centre,” added Malik.
The Meghalaya governor also said that if ILP will be implemented it needs to be seen if it benefits Meghalaya’s various issues.
“You should not take my views on it. You should assess yourself whether it will be harmful or it will be beneficial for the investments, for the people coming here, for tourism,” the Governor further said.
