Days after the Tirpra Motha party vested all responsibilities on party founder and supremo Pradyot Deb Barma to choose the candidate for the Tripura East Lok Sabha seat, the royal scion today asserted that he does not care about the party or the symbol but the ‘right person’ has to go to Delhi so that there are no ‘road blockades’ to further the Tiprasa cause in Centre.
“I don’t care about which party or symbol, I want the right person in Delhi who will speak for the Tiprasa people and in the state, outside the government I am there to speak on behalf of our people and our community. Nothing changes. Only thing that changes is that we have to deliver and provide chances and employment for our people and ideologically our position as Tipra Motha does not change,” Deb Barma said speaking to media persons after the swearing in of Motha leaders Animesh Debbarma and Brishaketu Debbarma into the Manik Saha Cabinet.
Pradyot’s comments gain significance as it has come amid reports of his sister Pragya Deb Barma likely to be picked as the candidate for the Tripura East Lok Sabha seat. The seat is currently held by BJP’s Rebati Kumar. Pragya contested the seat on a Congress ticket in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, but lost.
BJP has named sitting Rajya Sabha MP and former Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb as its candidate for the Tripura West Lok Sabha seat currently held by BJP’s Pratima Bhowmik, Union Minister of State for social Justice and Empowerment. Bhowmik has been dropped to make way for Biplab Deb.
Tripura has only two LS seats – Tripura East and Tripura West, both are in BJP kitty.
