Bollywood actor Salman Khan has once again found himself at the centre of a chilling death threat, allegedly issued by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. A WhatsApp message, sent to Mumbai Traffic Police, demanded a sum of Rs 5 crore to “end the enmity” between the actor and the infamous gang. The message warned that if the amount is not paid, Khan’s fate would be worse than that of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, who was recently murdered, allegedly by members of the Bishnoi gang.
The threat read: “Don’t take this lightly. If Salman Khan wants to stay alive and end the enmity with Lawrence Bishnoi, he must pay Rs 5 crore. If the money is not given, his condition will be worse than Baba Siddique’s.”
This isn’t the first time Khan has been targeted by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, who has harboured a grudge against the actor for years. The origins of this vendetta date back to a 1998 blackbuck poaching case involving Khan, which angered the Bishnoi community—a sect that considers the blackbuck a sacred animal.
Salman Khan’s legal troubles began in 1998 when he was accused of killing two blackbucks while filming Hum Saath Saath Hain in Rajasthan. Though the actor was eventually granted bail, the incident sparked outrage among the Bishnoi community, particularly Lawrence Bishnoi, a member of the community who later became a notorious gangster.
Bishnoi, who was just five years old at the time of the poaching incident, swore revenge against Khan as he rose to prominence in the criminal underworld.
Bishnoi’s vendetta became public in 2018 when he was arrested and declared from police custody that Salman Khan would be killed. “Salman Khan will be killed here in Jodhpur… Then, he will come to know about our real identity,” Bishnoi had warned. At the time, these threats seemed like little more than the boasts of a criminal seeking attention.
However, the threats escalated in seriousness. In 2022, Khan’s father, Salim Khan, discovered a threatening letter while on a morning walk near their home in Mumbai. The note ominously warned that both Salman and his father would meet the same fate as Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, who had been shot dead earlier that year, allegedly by members of the Bishnoi gang.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang’s threats against Khan grew increasingly severe in 2023. In March, a member of Khan’s team received an email threatening the actor and his family, leading to a case being registered at the Bandra police station. The situation took a violent turn on April 14, 2024, when shots were fired outside Khan’s home in Bandra, Mumbai. Two men on a motorcycle fired multiple rounds at Khan’s first-floor apartment before speeding off. Though no one was injured, the message was clear: the gang was willing to move from threats to action.
Later that year, in May, Mumbai Police foiled a plan by the Bishnoi gang to ambush Khan’s car near his Panvel farmhouse and gun him down. Four shooters associated with the gang were arrested, and AK-47 rifles were recovered, further indicating the seriousness of the threat.
The gang’s reach is not limited to India. In September 2024, warning shots were fired outside the Canada home of Punjabi singer AP Dhillon shortly after he had collaborated with Salman Khan on a music video. The global nature of these actions underscored the widespread influence of the Bishnoi gang.
Salim Khan himself became the target of a fresh threat later that month. While on his regular morning walk in Bandra, a burqa-clad woman and a man on a scooter approached him. The woman reportedly issued a veiled threat, asking, “Should I call Lawrence Bishnoi?” Salim Khan, unshaken by the encounter, immediately reported the incident.
The Murder of Baba Siddique
The most shocking escalation of this ongoing feud came with the murder of NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique. Known for his annual iftar parties, which Salman Khan often attended, Siddique had a long-standing friendship with the actor. On Saturday night in Bandra, Siddique was fatally shot outside his office by gunmen believed to be connected to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Hours later, the Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the murder in a chilling social media post. The message not only acknowledged the assassination of Siddique but also warned that anyone associated with Salman Khan would face similar consequences. This public claim of responsibility, combined with the ongoing threats to Khan, signals a dangerous escalation in the gang’s campaign against the Bollywood star.
Why Lawrence Bishnoi Swore Revenge on Salman Khan
Lawrence Bishnoi’s vendetta against Salman Khan stems from deep personal and cultural ties to the Bishnoi community, which reveres the blackbuck as a sacred animal. Bishnoi has built his reputation in the underworld on his relentless pursuit of revenge against Khan for the actor’s involvement in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case. Despite Khan’s legal acquittal, Bishnoi remains fixated on making the actor pay for his actions, seeing it as his mission to defend the honour of his community.
Since 2018, Bishnoi has used a series of threats, intimidation, and violence to target Khan. The gangster’s operations have grown in both scale and sophistication, with his gang being linked to the murders of high-profile figures such as Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala and Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi.
Heightened Security for Salman Khan
In light of these recent developments, security measures around Salman Khan and his family have been significantly increased. The actor, who currently enjoys Y+ security, is under round-the-clock surveillance, and additional precautions have been taken to ensure his safety. The Mumbai Police have also ramped up security around potential targets in the wake of Baba Siddique’s assassination, fearing that the Bishnoi gang may strike again.
Despite the heightened security, the ongoing feud between Lawrence Bishnoi and Salman Khan shows no signs of abating. With the murder of Baba Siddique, the stakes have been raised, and the possibility of further violence looms large.
The question now remains: how long will this deadly feud last? As Salman Khan continues to live under the shadow of the Bishnoi gang’s threats, his future hangs in the balance, with Lawrence Bishnoi seemingly determined to settle the score once and for all.
