Tara Prasad Give Up Her US Citizenship: Indian-origin figure skater Tara Prasad is gaining widespread attention after Mahindra Group chairperson Anand Mahindra lauded her accomplishments on social media.
In a post on X, Mahindra praised the 25-year-old for her dedication to representing India, revealing that she renounced her US citizenship in 2019 to compete for her ancestral homeland. Since then, Tara has won the Indian national skating championship three times.
“Hadn’t heard about Tara Prasad’s accomplishments till a friend recently sent me this clip. Apparently Tara switched her U.S citizenship to an Indian one in 2019 and has since been our national skating champ three times,” Mahindra wrote.
The industrialist also encouraged Tara as she prepares for the upcoming Winter Olympics in 2026. “Well done, Tara. I hope you are in the vanguard of athletes who give India a noticeable presence in winter sports… Go chase that dream,” he added.

Who is Tara Prasad?
Born on February 24, 2000, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Tara Prasad has built a strong reputation in figure skating. Born to a Tamil Nadu immigrant family, she began skating at the age of seven.
Tara made her senior international debut for India in 2020 at the Mentor Toruń Cup. Since then, she has represented India in several prestigious events, winning silver medals at the 2024 Reykjavik International and 2024 Skate Celje competitions.
She has also claimed the Indian national championship title in 2022, 2023, and 2025. Notably, Tara competed in the final segments of the 2022 and 2023 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships, finishing 16th in the 2025 edition held in Seoul.
