A group of 10 labourers alleged that they were held captive by a brick kiln owner for whom they were working in Assam’s Karbi Anglong.

The incident occurred at Manja village where a brick kiln owner, identified as Suresh Singh, has allegedly held ten labourers including few women, for a period of five days.

As per inputs, Suresh Singh had sought 20 workers for his brick kiln from a woman supplier named Yatan Nesa. Singh had also paid Rs 4 lakh three thousand to the woman for the workers required.

However, the woman only brought over ten workers. Following this, Singh held all the ten workers as hostage and locked them up while claiming that he had incurred a loss of Rs 8 lakh due to the labour shortage. He threatened to release the labourers only if he gets his amount back.

A group of local journalists soon visited the brick kiln and then reported the matter to police in Barpeta’s Baghbar.

Police soon probed the matter and finally released the labourers from the clutches of the brick kiln owner.
