Who Is C.H. Vijayashankar, Newly Appointed Meghalaya Governor Who Will Take Oath Today

Vijayashankar, a two-time Mysuru MP and former minister of Karnataka will be replacing incumbent Governor Phagu Chauhan.

The newly appointed governor of Meghalaya, C.H. Vijayashankar will take oath of office as the Governor of the state today.

C.H. Vijayashankar will be administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court, Justice S. Vaidyanathan at Raj Bhavan in Shillong at around 4.30 pm.

Vijayashankar, 67, a two-time Mysuru MP and former minister of Karnataka will be replacing incumbent Governor Phagu Chauhan.

Who is C.H. Vijayashankar?

Vijayashankar’s political career started with Congress in the early 1990s. But in 1991, he joined the BJP and contested the Hunsur Assembly by-election as a BJP candidate but lost. Later, he was elected a member of the Karnataka Assembly from Hunsur in 1994.

In 1998, he secured a place in national politics by winning the Lok Sabha elections from Mysuru and retained his seat in 2004. But he lost in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections and returned back to the state politics becoming an MLC and minister in Yediyurappa’s cabinet.

He held various portfolios, including forest department, ecology and environment department

In 2019, Vijayashankar rejoined Congress but returned to the BJP in 2020 again and since then he has been with the BJP.
