Another person, identified as Gangmoih Gangsa, who had gone to Longpa to negotiate the release of the duo, was also detained by the militants.

Sensational details have come to light regarding the abduction and subsequent release of 2 persons from Chop village in eastern Arunachal’s Longding district.

The abducted persons, 45-year-old Chingsan Wangham, the Raja or Chief, and 53-year-old Chopkhu Gangsa – the Gaon Bura (village headman) of the village, reached their homes safe and sound, however, the factors which led to their release have only now come to fore.

NorthEast Live has accessed a vital document which clearly states that the duo was released only after a written application was put up by various Myanmar based village chiefs, with a request to release the abducted persons.

The abducted Village Chief Chingsan Wangham, in an exclusively statement, narrates the circumstances which led to his abduction and the ordeal he faced during his nearly 20 days in captivity, before his eventual release.
Wangham said, “They abducted us and took us to Burma. We arrived there around three or four in the morning. They take great care of us, providing us good food and they didn’t harm us during abduction days. But they demanded us a ransom of Rs 1.65 crore for the release.”
“We don’t have the enormous amount of money to give them. Even though our village people manage to give Rs 1 lakh. Many village chiefs from Burma arrived and asked the leader of the cadres to release us”, Wangham added.
It may be mentioned here that the duo was abducted by a heavily armed 15 member group of militants from the NSCN (Ang Mai) faction since they had refused to pay extortion, which the outfit had demanded 3 months back.
Wangham and Gangsa were released on Thursday after remaining in captivity for nearly a month.
Militants of the Ang Mai faction of the NSCN-K had abducted a village chief and a ‘gaon bura’ (village headman) from Chop village in the district on November 28 for allegedly not paying a levy of Rs 50,000 to the outfit.
Another person, identified as Gangmoih Gangsa, who had gone to Longpa to negotiate the release of the duo, was also detained by the militants. However, he was also released along with the duo on Thursday.
This was the second incident of abduction by militants in the district in November after NSCN-KYA rebels kidnapped two employees of a private construction firm.
Shashank Yadav, a junior engineer, and Liamgao Pansa, a supervisor of a construction company, were kidnapped by three armed militants of the outfit from a camp near the Tisa River between Pongchau and Konnu village in Longding district on November 16. They were working under a contractor for a BRTF project.
However, both were released on November 28.
