Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Wednesday informed that the state will soon fully introduce the Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) for the students.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma said it’s an effort to make education digital.
Sangma said that ABC is a digital storehouse that contains the information of the credits earned by individual students throughout their learning journey. It will help in tracking down the enrollment of students, their academic performance and the drop out ratio in the state.
He also informed that the state is almost at the stage of introducing it.
It may be mentioned that the ABC ID is linked to a system called APAAR ID or (Permanent Education Number) PEN, which ensures accountability and transparency by keeping track of students’ progress and records. This ID functions as a digital identity for the student in the realm of education.
The objective of APAAR is ‘One Nation, One Student ID’. APAAR has been conceptualized under the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) in which all college/university-going students are required to register on ABC, i.e., Academic Bank of Credits.
