Welcome to Meghalaya, But Come with Clean, Mind, Clean Heart and Clean Intention: Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh

Meghalaya: In terms of safety, the state has launched the Tourist Buddy Project, aiming to recruit and train 100 multilingual tourist guides.
Amid a blistering negative campaign being indulged in by a certain section of the society against Meghalaya falsely accusing the state and its people of killing Raja Raghuvanshi, Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh has welcomed people to the state, a tourist hotspot, but have requested all to come to the state with “clean heart, clean mind and clean intent”.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live Editor-in-Chief Wasbir Hussain, the Minister shared details of several major projects of the Meghalaya Government that is aimed at further enhancing the experience of all those visiting the state that has been a hot favourite among domestic and international tourists for decades.
Ward’s Lake Revamp: The iconic Ward’s Lake in Shillong, Northeast India’s oldest artificial lake, will be given a facelift with a major overhaul. Daily music shows, light and sound shows will be introduced, and visiting hours will be extended to 9:30 PM.
Umiam Lake (Barapani) Development: The state has acquired 300 acres of land near Umiam Lake, the largest artificial lake in the Northeast popularly known as Barapani. Plans include introducing a lake cruise (YOT) that can accommodate six persons and building a 5-star hotel, with completion expected within a year.
Integrated Tourist Circuits: Key destinations across Meghalaya will be connected under a unified tourist circuit plan.
In terms of safety, the state has launched the Tourist Buddy Project, aiming to recruit and train 100 multilingual tourist guides across hotspots. These trained professionals will act as companions and facilitators, speaking Hindi, English, and local languages, ensuring a safe and enriching experience for visitors.
