Water Level Of Sikkim’s Lachung River On The Rise, Lachung-Yumthang Roads Blocked

The team further reported that due to persistent rainfall in the area, the road has been severely blocked by mud and boulders.

The water level of Sikkim’s Lachung river has been steadily increasing as reported by the SHO of Lachung Police Station who visited the landslide area along the Lachung-Yumthan road at Naumdasa along with a dedicated police team. The team further reported that due to persistent rainfall in the area, the road has been severely blocked by mud and boulders. They however reported no casualties in the region amid inclement weather conditions. The team further informed that it is closely monitoring the slight increase in the volume of the Lachung river and the same have been informed to the GREF officials. They also issued notice to avoid unnecessary travel to the area amid hazardous conditions.
