War on Drugs: Manipur police foils cross-border smuggling

Based on specific input, the joint operation was launched at the general area of the Indo-Myanmar Friendship Bridge, Moreh.

Continuing the war on drugs in Manipur, a combined team of Moreh Battalion Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) and Manipur Police foiled cross-border smuggling of narcotics at Friendship Bridge, Moreh under Tengnoupal district on Tuesday.

Based on specific input, the joint operation was launched at the general area of the Indo-Myanmar Friendship Bridge, Moreh.

The joint team observed the suspicious movement of two individuals from Myanmar making their way into India near Border Pillar 77.

On seeing the Security forces, the individuals dropped their sacks and fled toward Myanmar. Later on, the sacks were searched and 8.60 kilograms of brown sugar worth around Rs 17.20 Crore was recovered.

Meanwhile, the recovered items have been handed over to the Moreh Police for further investigation.
