Wait Over For Football Fans In Meghalaya As Shillong Set To Host Historic First-Ever ISL Match

Shillong is set to script history as it prepares to host its first-ever Indian Super League (ISL) match, with NorthEast United FC set to face Mumbai City FC on Friday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Marking a significant milestone for football in Meghalaya, NorthEast United FC has officially designated Shillong as its second home ground.

The club is expected to receive overwhelming support from local fans, creating an electrifying atmosphere at the stadium.

The Highlanders will also host Bengaluru FC and East Bengal FC at the venue on February 21 and March 8, respectively, as the fans look forward to witnessing Indian football’s biggest stars, including Sunil Chhetri, Lallianzuala Chhangte and Naorem Mahesh Singh in action.

With an anticipated crowd of at least 17,000, excitement is at an all-time high. The decision to bring ISL action to Shillong has been met with enthusiasm from both supporters and local authorities, further solidifying the city’s emergence as a key hub for Indian football.

Ahead of preparation, the Superintendent of Police East Khasi Hills on Wednesday announced a slew of traffic regulations and arrangements for the match.

As per the directives issued by the Office of the East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, entry will be restricted at key junctions. Vehicles will not be allowed to enter Lumjingshai Junction towards CRPF Junction, with traffic being diverted towards Lawmali Junction and beyond.

Similarly, there will be no entry at Lumjingshai Junction towards Forest Colony. At 4th Furlong Junction, entry towards Polo Market will be restricted, and vehicles will be rerouted towards CS Junction.

Additionally, no right turn will be permitted at Matri Mandir Junction towards Polo Market, with traffic being diverted towards 4th Furlong Junction and beyond.
