Tensions within the party escalated after Nongrum and his supporters released a video claiming internal discord.

The Voice of the People Party (VPP) is set to take a collective decision on the next course of action against North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum over alleged anti-party activities, party president Ardent M Basaiawmoit has confirmed.

Tensions within the party escalated after Nongrum and his supporters released a video claiming internal discord. In the video, the legislator accused certain members of establishing a “system” within the party and justified his absence from party activities ahead of the upcoming Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections.

Reacting to the allegations, VPP president Basaiawmoit stated, “Not only the party leadership, but the people also see him as anti-party. We will take a call shortly.”

The party has expressed strong discontent over Nongrum’s remarks, signaling a potential course of action against the MLA. The internal rift within the VPP has now come to the forefront, raising questions about the party’s unity ahead of crucial electoral battles.
