Polling for the first phase of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) polls began on Monday morning with COVID-19 protocols in place.

The first phase of polls will cover 21 seats of Udalguri and Baksa districts.

Nearly 14 lakh voters will decide the political fate of 130 candidates.

Bodoland People’s Front, BJP, UPPL, Congress and AIUDF and Independent candidates are in the fray.

While BJP is fighting against its alliance Bodoland People’s Front, Congress and AIUDF are in alliance in this election.

Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place to ensure peaceful polling.

As per the guidelines of the State Election Commission, thermal screening of voters are being conducted at polling stations.

The Counting of votes will take place on 12th of this month.
