Kohli enjoys a great friendship with Chhetri. Taking to social media Virat commented on Chhetri’s video using a heart and said, “My brother. Proud.”
Olympic medallists Neeraj Chopra and PV Sindhu also paid tribute to the legendary footballer. With this, the footballer also received tributes from different personalities across the globe.
Sunil Chhetri is one of the most decorated football players the country has ever produced. He has been an inspiration to many of the country’s young athletes. In 145 matches for India, he scored 94 goals, the highest for the country. Former India captain Bhaichung Bhutia is second on the list, having scored 42 goals.
In a 19-year career, the Arjuna Award winner has scored 94 goals in 150 international matches. The most capped Indian footballer is the world’s third-highest goalscorer, trailing only superstars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
The 39-year-old has stated that his farewell appearance for the national team will be in the second round of World Cup qualifiers against Kuwait on June 6 at Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium.
