Violence erupts in phase 2 of Manipur Polls, polling at 36 Tobumai halted

Violence erupted at Tobumai Polling Station as the final phase of the Manipur Assembly Elections 2022 got underway, with supporters of both the Naga People’s Front and Independent candidates clashing.

The supporters of candidates toppled down a jeep.

Meanwhile, team Northeast Live was attacked by miscreants during poll coverage near Tobumai village.

Northeast Live’s equipment was also snatched by the miscreants. The team was saved, however, due to the timely intervention of cops. The miscreants later handed over the equipment to the team.

Soon after, polling has been halted at the 36 Tobumai polling station.

It is believed that clashes broke out when two buses carrying voters from Kohima were attacked by miscreants before reaching Tobumai village. Many voters were reportedly injured in the incident.

Voting for phase 2 of Manipur Assembly Elections 2022 has begun at 7 AM today at a total of 22 constituencies spread across 6 districts in the state under tight security cover.

There are a total of 1247 polling stations including six auxiliary polling stations And as many as 8,47,400 electors are expected to exercise their franchise. Voting will continue till 4 pm today. The Counting of votes will take place on March 10.
