A part of the Silkyara tunnel collapsed in Uttarkashi on November 12
The 41 workers trapped inside the collapsed portion of the under-construction Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi were served packed solid food items such as veg pulao and matar paneer as the ongoing operation to rescue them entered its 10th day on Tuesday.
The cooked meal was sent to trapped workers through the 6-inch-wide alternative lifeline pipe that was laid on Monday evening.
The hotel’s owner, Abhishek Ramola, told news agency ANI that about 150 packets of food had been prepared for them. All items were cooked under the supervision of a doctor. They are being provided with easy-to-digest food.
The cook, Sanjeet Rana, who works at a nearby eatery, said, “We have prepared veg pulao, mattar paneer, and butter chapati for the workers trapped inside. We have packed the food in adequate portions.”
The Director of National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL), Anshu Manish Khulko, said that hot meals such as Khichdi and Dalia could not be delivered in cylindrical plastic bottles through the 6-inch pipe as something got stuck inside. But now the pipe has been cleared and fruits such as oranges, bananas and medicines were also supplied to the trapped workers on Tuesday.

Rescue operations by different agencies, NDRF, ITBP, Army engineers, SDRF, fire and emergency services, Border Roads Organisation and other technical agencies of the Central government are underway
In the meantime, prayers are being offered in a temple that has been built at the tunnel’s main entrance.
In order to facilitate machine passage and rescue operations, the Border roadways Organization (BRO) has constructed a road near the Silkyara Tunnel site.
“Today we will repair the road and make sure that there is no difficulty in moving the machines to the tunnel site,” said a BRO worker, Lacchu Raut.
