Students further alleged that invigilators and faculty members helped 45 local students through unfair means while ignoring the rest.

Mahbubul Hoque, chairman of the ERD Foundation and Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has been arrested by Assam Police.

The Special Task Force of Assam Police arrested Hoque from his residence in Ghoramara, Guwahati and he has been taken to Sribhumi for questioning.

A major law and order situation unfolded on Friday during the class 12 examinations held in the Central Public School, in Patharkandi under Sribhumi district, run by the ERD Foundation.

214 students, who were registered in the Central Public School but were attending classes under a special programme run by USTM, created a ruckus when the invigilators did not provide them adequate assistance in the exam hall.

The students alleged that at the time of admission, they were promised that invigilators would provide them necessary assistance in the exam hall to pass the exam, which they did not receive. These students were apparently enrolled at the Central Public School Patharkandi but were actually doing coaching classes for entrance examinations in programmes allegedly run by USTM etc.

Not just this, many students realized that they were enrolled under the Central Public School, when they previously thought that they were students of USTM Vision-50, the special programme run by USTM.
Students further alleged that invigilators and faculty members helped 45 local students through unfair means, ignoring the rest.

Reportedly, Police and CRPF teams had to intervene to control the situation when the ruckus erupted. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
