Urn containing Vajpayee’s mortal remains reaches Guwahati

The urn containing mortal remains of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was brought to Guwahati today. The ashes will be immersed both in the Brahmaputra and the Barak rivers.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal formally received the urn from Assam BJP president Ranjit Dass, who brought the urn containing the ashes of Vajpayee from Delhi.
A rally with the ashes of late former Prime Minister passed through the city before reaching the BJP headquarter at Hengrabari.
The urn will be taken out in a procession at 1 pm tomorrow before it is immersed in the Brahmaputra River. The urn will also be taken to Barak valley for its immersion in the Barak River tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the ashes of former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee will be immersed in various rivers of Northeast.
The mortal remains of the late prime minister will be immersed in Lohit river in Arunachal Pradesh, Barak and Brahmaputra rivers in Assam, Imphal river in Manipur, Tlawng river in Mizoram, Umshirpi river in Meghalaya, Dayang river of Nagaland, Teestha river in Sikkim and Gomti river in Tripura.
The Party delegations from the respective states received the mortal remains of Vajpayee in New Delhi in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP National President Amit Shah, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and family members of Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
