Students of Manipur University today stormed into the registrar’s office staging their protest over a show cause notice served to an assistant professor of the Manipuri department.
Large number of students stormed the office of the Registrar and demanded to revoke the show cause notice allegedly served to Assistant Professor Naorem Sanatomba.
The registrar had issued a show cause notice to Assistant Professor Naorem Sanatomba allegedly over criticism of the state government on issues like lifting the ban on the sale of liquor during a debate organized by the Manipur University Students Union (MUSU).
As per sources, the show cause notice cited that Such speech made by the assistant professor in public has tarnished the image of the University.
Alleging that the speech of Naorem Sanatomba violated the Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1964, the show cause notice asked the assistant professor to explain in writing within 7 days why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.
Meanwhile, Imphal West police also arrived to contain the situation as the students resorted to vandalising university property.
