The SSA teachers in Meghalaya have decided to launch a letter campaign from 22 December till 14 January 2022 pressing for their demand of payment of pending salaries. The move comes a day after the agitating teachers decided for non-cooperation with the state government until the payment of their pending salaries for almost five months.
As part of the ‘non-cooperation movement’, the SSA teachers will not take part in any of the state government programs till their dues are released.
Speaking on behalf of the affected teachers Aristotle C Rymbai, President of the Meghalaya SSA Schools Association Central Body, warned of future agitation if their demand is not fulfilled at the earliest.
He warned that if the government does not release their pending salaries by the end of the letter-writing campaign the SSA teachers will hold another round of protests on January 21. He also spoke about the plight of the 12,541 SSA teachers plight due to non-payment of salaries.
“The teachers are being asked to leave their rented accommodation for not paying their monthly rent. They are not being able to pay the fees of their children at a time when new admissions are just around the corner,” he said.
