Union Minister of Women & Child Development Smriti Zubin Irani who arrived in Imphal on Saturday on a two-day visit kickstarted the Manipur leg’s “Rashtriya Poshan Maah”.
The Union Cabinet Minister arrived at Imphal’s Bir Tikendrajit International airport, where she was welcomed by Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh along with other officials.
As part of the ongoing ‘POSHAN Maah’ which is being celebrated under the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the Union Minister attended an event at the City Convention Centre, where she also delivered the keynote address. The event marked the beginning of activities under the Prime Minister’s outreach programme of POSHAN Abhiyaan.
The event was attended by Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Education minister S Rajen Singh, Rajya-Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, MLA Sapam Ranjan along with officials of Social Welfare Department and health workers.
During her stay, the Union minister would attend a series of government programs including interacting with Anganwadi workers, reviewing the activities pertaining to Poshan Maah.
Irani will also hold deliberations with Chief Minister N Biren Singh pertaining to the upcoming elections scheduled sometime in March next year.
On Sunday, Irani will be the Chief Guest at an event on POSHAN Maah celebrations at District Panchayat Resource Centre in Bishnupur district. The event will begin with the plantation of medicinal plants and fruit bearing trees. The Union Minister will also flag off the POSHAN Cycle Rally.
With the theme “Converging Towards A Healthy Walk Through Life” Rashtriya Poshan Maah is aimed at reducing malnutrition across the country.
