The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the naming of Greenfield Airport at Hollongi, Itanagar as “Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar”.
The Arunachal Pradesh State Government passed a resolution renaming the airport “Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar,” reflecting the devotion of the locals for the Sun (Donyi) and the Moon (Polo) as a representation of the State’s customs and rich cultural history.

In January 2019, the Government of India gave “In-principle” clearance for the construction of Hollongi Greenfield Airport.
At a cost of Rs. 646 crore, the project is being constructed by Airports Authority of India (AAI) with assistance from the central government and the state of Arunachal Pradesh.
