Unable to bear wife’s death, Assam IPS officer shoots himself near wife’s hospital bed

Shiladitya Chetia, a 2009-batch IPS officer, reportedly shot himself with his service weapon inside the ICU where his wife was being treated.

In a shocking and sad incident, Shiladitya Chetia, Secretary, Home and Political Department, Government of Assam, shot himself dead near his wife’s ICU bed soon after his wife breathed her last in the hospital bed today evening in Guwahati.

Shiladitya Chetia, a 2009 batch IPS officer, shot himself with his service weapon inside the ICU where his wife was being treated.

As per inputs, his wife was suffering from cancer and was admitted to the hospital for several months.

Taking to X, GP Singh, Director General of Police, Assam, said, “In an unfortunate turn of events, Sri Shiladitya Chetia IPS 2009 RR, Secretary Home & Political Government of Assam, took his own life this evening, a few minutes after the attending physician declared the death of his wife who was battling cancer for a long time. Entire Assam Police family is in deep grief.”
