Pro-talk ULFA leader Jiten Dutta on Monday said that ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah will join the talks table only if the Government of India agrees to deliberate on the core demand of the rebel group.

The pro-talk ULFA leader said that Paresh Baruah had earlier set three pre-conditions for joining the peace process. The pre-conditions included – holding talks outside India, talks on sovereignty issue and deliberations in presence of United Nations representatives.

However, Jiten Dutta today said that the ULFA-I chief has now agreed to hold talks in Assam and without any UN representatives being present.

The pro-talk faction of the ULFA also made an earnest appeal to Paresh Baruah to come to the mainstream.

Jiten Dutta in a message to Paresh Baruah, urged that threat to the identity of the indigenous is the most contemporary issue rather than the sovereignty issue. And therefore, the ULFA-I chief must strike a deal with the Centre to safeguard the indigenous.

The pro-talk ULFA leader also appealed the Government of India as well as Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to take necessary steps to bring Paresh Baruah to the talks table.
