UK Wins Manipur Polo International Tourney Cup

UK beat India Polo Team B (Manipur) 10-8 in the final match played today at Mapal Kangjeibung, Manipur

UK has won the 14th Manipur Polo International Tourney Cup beating India Polo Team B (Manipur) 10-8 in the final match played today at Mapal Kangjeibung, Manipur.

For the UK team, Phil Seller was the highest scorer with 7 goals, while Harry Tucker scored 3. For India Polo Team B (Manipur), L Atangba and P Ojit scored 3 goals each while T Pradeepkumar added 2 goals.

Winners UK received a Rolling trophy, certificates along with a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh. Runners up India Polo Team B (Manipur) also received a rolling trophy, certificates and cash prize of Rs 1.5 lakh.

It may be mentioned that India Polo Team B (Manipur) had won the tournament 11 times, while US, Australia and UK won once each.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor La Ganesan said that Manipur government along with pony enthusiasts are making efforts to safeguard the rare ponies found in Manipur, which share close connection with the people and history of Manipur.

Best Pony award was given to a pony named Ninety Plus. A cash prize of Rs 20,000 was given to Ninety Plus.
Horticulture Minister, Letpao Haokip, Education Minister Th. Basantakumar, President of Manipur Olympic Association Dr Th. Radheshyam, and other eminent persons graced the closing ceremony.
