Naharlagun Police have cracked a disturbing cybercrime case involving the creation and circulation of a fake pornographic video using a local girl’s photo. The victim, currently studying in Guwahati, discovered that her image had been used in an explicit video that was shared on social media platforms, including a Telegram group named “Arunachal Girl’s VIP.” The video was sold to users in exchange for money.
The girl reported the incident after receiving numerous harassing messages, causing her immense mental stress. She lodged a complaint with the Naharlagun Police, who immediately registered a case and launched an investigation.
A special team, led by Inspector K. Dev, OC of Naharlagun Police Station, and supervised by SDPO Naharlagun Paul Jerang and SP Mihin Gambo, worked diligently to track down the culprits. Using both technical and traditional investigative techniques, they identified the mastermind, Tai Tacha (22), a college student from Arunachal Pradesh.
He had created the fake pornographic video by digitally altering the victim’s Instagram photos and then distributed it through a fake Telegram account. Payments for the video were made via a QR code linked to the account of a fellow student.
Yesterday, police arrested both Tai Tacha and Hillang John in Naharlagun. The devices used to create and distribute the video were seized for forensic examination. The two accused were presented before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) in Yupia and have been remanded to police custody for further investigation.
The police have urged the public to be cautious about sharing personal images online and warned that strict action will be taken against anyone involved in such malicious activities.
