The famous ‘Balakot Airstrike’, the first aerial assault carried out by India in Pakistan after the 1971 Indo-Pak war, completed two years on Friday.
The Balakot Air Strike was conducted in response to the deadly Pulwama attack that claimed the lives of 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel.
On the second anniversary of Balakot airstrikes, Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a tweet said the Indian Air Force (IAF) had again made clear the policies of New India against terrorism by responding to the Pulwama terror attack.
Shah also paid homage to the martyrs of the Pulwama attack and said the country and its soldiers are safe under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hailed the exceptional courage and diligence of the IAF and said “the success of strikes has shown India’s strong will to act against terrorism”.
Both Uri and Balakot airstrikes have demonstrated India’s prowess to retaliate to Pakistan’s sinister intentions.
At around 3.30 am on February 26, 2019, 12 Mirage 2000 fighter jets crossed the Line of Control (LoC) and destroyed the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror camp in Pakistan’s Balakot.
Codenamed as ‘Operation Bandar’, the Balakot airstrike was conducted by the seventh and ninth squadrons of the Indian Air Force.
The strikes were carried out in retaliation to the February 14 Pulwama attack on convoy of vehicles carrying CRPF security personnel.
The IAF used the upgraded Mirage 2000 and Sukhoi Su-30 MKI to carry out the attack.
