Tripura: War of words escalates between Sushanta Chowdhury and Manik Sarkar

Tripura Information and Cultural Affairs Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury has lashed out at former Chief Minister and Opposition CPI-M Leader Manik Sarkar, for his allegations on Chowdhury’s home constituency, Majlishpur.

Earlier, Sarkar had called Majlishpur a den of mafias and anti-socials, where Chowdhury is giving refuge and using the mafias in various unlawful activities including rigging and booth capturing in the recent Tripura civic polls.

Responding to the allegations, Chowdhury said the allegations are true but that was during the time of the CPIM led government in Tripura when Manik Sarkar was the CM. He added numerous cases of political murders including a CPIM Minister Bimal Sinha, MLAs and an SDM took place but none of the culprits was arrested as the ruling party was behind all the murders to remain in power.

Chowdhury also alleged that Sarkar himself had encouraged chit funds in Tripura and used poor people’s money in increasing the fund for his party and its offices.
