Tripura: Secretary of a local club shot dead, probe underway

Durga Prasanna Deb, popularly known as Viki Deb, secretary of the local club Bharat Ratna, was shot dead by an unknown assailant in Agartala, Tripura.
The incident took place yesterday evening in the Salbagan area near Usha Bazar located in the outskirts of the city.
As per inputs, the assailant reportedly shot Deb at point-blank range inside a car and fled from the scene immediately.
Dr. Kiren Kumar, Superintendent of Police (SP) for West Tripura district, who reached the crime scene soon after the police was informed about the incident, said that an assailant with his face covered, approached the victim’s car, prompting Deb to roll the window down. Without warning, the assailant fired three shots from close range.
Before police reached the spot, Deb was taken to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
An investigation into the incident is underway to ascertain the motive behind the heinous act and to arrest those involved.
Dr. Kumar also said that law enforcement agencies are conducting intensive raids to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice.
The body of the deceased has been transferred to the morgue of Agartala Government Medical College & GBP Hospital.
Former MLA of the area and prominent BJP leader Dr. Dilip Das strongly condemned the heinous crime and extended his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family. Das also urged authorities to expedite efforts in apprehending the perpetrators.
