TIPRA Motha founder and Tripura royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma on Saturday sought the Centre’s intervention into the escalating attacks on the indigenous tribes in unrest-hit Bangladesh.

The Tripura royal scion, in a video message, alleged that people of minority communities, who have been living in Bangladesh for hundreds of years were being attacked in a systematic way so that their land could be grabbed.

Debbarma appealed the Government of India to take up the issue and raise the matter at the United Nations.

Debbarma in a video message, said, “The time has come for India to raise this issue in the UN and expose Bangladesh in front of the entire world. I appeal to the Govt. of India that this matter should raise the rights of the minorities being attacked in Bangladesh, at the highest level in the United Nations, and let embarrassed Bangladesh. If they cannot protect the lives of Hindus, Christians, and Buddhists in Bangladesh, the world should stop them. The Asian Development Bank should take them to task, and India should also rethink whether we need to give them perks that they deserve or not.”

Debbarma said, “This is not the first time that minorities, including Bengali Hindus and indigenous people, Buddhist Chakma, were attacked after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government in Bangladesh. Minorities were attacked in Noakhali and Comilla districts too.”

“Maharaja Bir Chandra Library was set on fire, and books that were 300 years old were gutted,” he added.
Besides, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has also sought an appropriate response from the Bangladesh High Commission in Agartala on the attacks and seeks the safety of minorities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
Tipra Motha chief further said that his party will organise a rally on September 26 to protest the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh.

“We will stage a massive rally to protest the attack on minorities in Bangladesh on September 26. Our youth organisation YTF will also join the rally to raise voice against the atrocities in the neighbouring country,” he said.

It may be mentioned, Pradyot’s response comes after the Tripura Chakma Students’ Association and members of the Youth Tipra Federation staged a massive protest in Agartala on Saturday against the brutality unleashed on the minorities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh.
