Tripura capital Agartala on Wednesday turned into a virtual battle zone with hundreds of agitating terminated teachers trying to storm into Chief Minister Biplab Deb’s residence to press for their demands.
The clash between the police and agitating teachers has been reported from outside Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb’s residence in Agartala.
As the situation spiralled out of control, police used water cannons to disperse the crowd besides resorting to lathi-charge. Several teachers were injured in the clash.
Earlier in the morning, police had carried out a crackdown on the Joint Movement Committee members by evicting them form the protest site. Over 160 agitating teachers were also arrested by the police earlier in the day.
Police personnels arrived at the spot in Agartala and removed the JMC protestors who have been holding the sit-in protest for the past 52 days demanding rehabilitation for the 10,323 sacked teachers in the state.
The police had also demolished their makeshift protest site and detained around a hundred protestors.
