Tripura: Police arrest one firearms dealer, recovers 2 pistols and 2 magazines

A firearms dealer was arrested by Government Railway Police (GRP) staff from the Dharmanagar Railway Station in Tripura and recovered two pistols and two magazines from his possession.

The firearms dealer has been identified as Bishik Chakma, hailing from Manu, Sitlapara in Dhalai district of Tripura, but he resides in Korbuk, Mogchari, in Gomati district.

The arrest was made on Thursday evening during a routine passenger check after the Silchar-Agartala Express arrived at the Dharmanagar Station, said Uttam Kumar Kaloi, the officer-in-charge of GRP at Dharmanagar.

During interrogation, Bishik Chakma disclosed that he had procured the firearms from Dimapur, Nagaland, with the intention of smuggling them into Bangladesh.

Chakma was supposed to sell the illegal firearms to a person named Suman Chakma in Bangladesh, said Police.

This incident marks the second such occurrence this week.

Just three days ago, GRP arrested one illegal arms dealer at Jirania rail station. The individual was found with a US-made and a China-made pistol, along with two empty magazines. These firearms also traced back to Dimapur and were suppose to be smuggled to Bangladesh.
