Two people including a woman and her son were hospitalized after a scuffle broke out between a Shopkeeper and some Congress picketers during a 24-hour bandh called by congress supporters in Tripura’s Unakoti district.
The incident took place at Jubarajnagar when the Congress picketers found a shop open and tried to forcefully close the shop, during the scuffle the shopkeeper’s younger brother Subhankar Das and their mother Mira Das got injured.
Officials of the fire department reached the spot and rushed the mother and son to the Unakoti district hospital where they are under treatment.
Allegedly the Congress supporters also looted some jewelry from the victim before trying to enter the BJP party office located next to the shop. Meanwhile, BJP supporters rushed to the spot and in protest blocked the Tilla Bazar road demanding the arrest of the culprits.
Meantime, SDPO Kailasehar Chandan Saha reached the spot with a large contingent of paramilitary force and brought the situation under control.
However, local Congress leaders have denied the incident and said that despite a repeated request by the Congress picketers the shopkeeper was adamant and refused to close his shop which led to the incident.
