Nath revealed that the present government, under the leadership of Dr Manik Saha, has allocated 39.81% of the development fund for the 31% tribal population
Tripura’s Agricultural and Power Minister, Ratan Lal Nath, has strongly refuted allegations brought by the main opposition TIPRA Motha Party, regarding the allocation of funds for tribal development in the state. Claiming that the present government has set a new record by allocating the highest amount for the tribal population’s development, Nath defended the government’s commitment to inclusive growth.
Speaking at a press conference held at the BJP headquarters in Agartala, Minister Nath, accompanied by MLA Rampada Jamatia, without directly naming the attackers, criticized Opposition Leader Animesh Debbarma and former TIPRA Motha chairman Pradyot Kishore Deb Barma for misleading the public with their allegations of deprivation. Nath labelled them as “hypocrites” who pretended not to understand the government’s efforts despite being well aware of the maximum priority given to tribal development.
Nath revealed that the present government, under the leadership of Dr Manik Saha, has allocated 39.81% of the development fund for the 31% tribal population. Out of the total budget of Rs. 27,654 crore, an impressive amount of Rs. 5,608.72 crore has been dedicated to the tribal sub-plan, marking a historic milestone in the budgetary allocation for tribal development in Tripura.
Nath emphasized that developmental activities account for Rs. 14,086.42 crore of the total budget, and in line with constitutional provisions, 31% of these funds must be utilized for the welfare of the tribal population. The allocation of Rs. 5,608.72 crore to the tribal sub-plan represents the government’s commitment to upholding the population ratio mandated by the constitution.
Accusing opposition parties of deliberately disseminating misleading information, Nath expressed disappointment that they chose to focus on negative aspects rather than discussing the positive elements of the budget during the Assembly sessions. He called for a more constructive approach to foster development and address the needs of all citizens.
The government’s record allocation for tribal development underscores its dedication to the upliftment of marginalized communities in Tripura. By prioritizing the needs of the tribal population, the administration aims to promote social and economic progress, ensuring that every section of society receives equitable growth opportunities.
