Tripura: Former ICDS contractual workers lock ICDS office demanding job security

Former ICDS contractual workers lock office in protest, alleging unfair permanent job recruitment favouring political supporters in Tripura

Angry former contractual workers of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) locked the office of the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) at Dumburnagar on Friday, expressing their frustration and disappointment over the recent initiative taken by the concerned department to recruit permanent employees. The protestors alleged that this initiative was depriving them of job security, despite their years of dedicated service.

For many years, these protestors have been working as helpers and teachers in various ICDS centres in some of the remotest parts of the state. Many have served diligently for over five years under contractual agreements.

Their frustration stems from the fact that they had been holding onto the hope that their dedicated service would eventually lead to permanent positions. However, this hope was dashed as the opportunity for permanent employment seemed to favour those aligned with the ruling party, according to the protestors.

Voicing their concerns, the demonstrators claimed that their years of service had been rendered in vain, as the department now favoured the recruitment of new, inexperienced individuals through interviews and examinations. They saw these processes as a mere eyewash, to appointing the ruling BJP supporters depriving those who are supporters of opposition parties including the TIPRA Motha.
