The Centre is rushing teams of NDRF, apart from boats and helicopters, to the state to assist the local government in relief and rescue operations.
Heavy rains and landslides continue to batter and bruise Tripura. Since Monday, 11 people have died, 4 due to landslides and the rest 7 because of floods and thousands have been rendered homeless as incessant rains continue to pound all the 8 districts of the northeastern state.
Of the 8 districts – Dhalai, Gomti, Khowai, Sipahijala, Unakoti, North Tripura, South Tripura and West Tripura, Dhalai is the only district where the impact of floods and landslides have been less till today.
This has been by far one of the worst monsoon to hit the state, locals said.
At least 350 relief camps have been set up across the state. But as per news coming in this afternoon, many of these relief camps too have been flooded, adding to the woes of those taking refuge in these camps and sending the government’s relief plans into a tizzy.
Schools, colleges and other institutes continue to be shut for the second day today owing to severe waterlogging.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is in touch with Chief Minister Manik Saha. Union Home Minister Shah spoke to CM Saha over the phone today and have assured all help.
