Tripura : CPIM Slams BJP Government, Alleges Corruption and Governance Failure at Protest Rally

Party claimed the state's administration has failed to address unemployment, financial hardships, and rising crimes, calling for continued public agitation.
Tripura’s Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPIM State Secretary and Leader of the Opposition, Jitendra Choudhury, launched a fierce attack on the BJP-led state government, accusing it of widespread corruption and a total collapse of law and order under Chief Minister Manik Saha’s leadership.
Speaking at a protest rally organized by the CPIM in Agartala on Thursday, Choudhury claimed that corruption and the BJP government had become inseparable. “Corruption and the BJP government may be two separate words, but in Tripura, they have become synonymous. From the Secretariat to the Panchayat level, the entire system is tainted by corruption,” Choudhury said.
He further alleged that the people of Tripura, especially those in rural areas, were suffering severe financial hardships, worsened by nepotism, unemployment, and governance failures. Choudhury warned that if the government did not address the public’s grievances, the people would soon “teach them a lesson.”
The protest saw hundreds of CPIM supporters marching through the streets of Agartala, despite heavy rain. Carrying placards, red flags, and banners, the demonstrators expressed their anger over issues like rising atrocities against women and children, the state’s ongoing financial crisis, and the lack of support for flood victims.
The protesters demanded an end to corruption, the filling of vacant government positions, and urgent action to address Tripura’s growing unemployment problem.
The rally began at Orient Chowmuhani and culminated in a public gathering at Paradise Chowmuhani, where senior CPIM leaders, including former Chief Minister and Politburo member Manik Sarkar, addressed the crowd.
Manik Sarkar accused the BJP government of deliberately dividing the people of Tripura along religious and caste lines to divert attention from real issues. “The current regime is using divisive tactics to distract the public from unemployment and the financial crisis. Instead of solving these problems, they are stoking communal tensions,” he said.
He also criticized the police for allegedly favouring the ruling party, accusing them of failing to act against attacks on the opposition.
Manik Sarkar urged the public to remain united and vigilant against such divisive forces and to continue their protests until their demands are met. The CPIM leader called for ongoing agitation across Tripura to pressure what he described as an “anti-people and failed government.”
This protest rally is the latest in a series of opposition efforts to highlight the BJP government’s alleged shortcomings ahead of the upcoming Village Council elections, expected later this year.
The rally showcased growing discontent among parts of Tripura’s population and signaled the opposition’s determination to hold the government accountable.
Just a week earlier, the opposition Congress had also organized a massive protest in Agartala on similar issues.
