Former MP and Tripura Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPI-M) state secretary, Jitendra Chowdhury, today took charge as the Leader of the Opposition in the Tripura Legislative Assembly.
In a formal ceremony, Tripura Assembly Speaker Biswabandhu Sen handed over the letter of appointment to Chowdhury.
Addressing reporters after assuming office, Chowdhury highlighted the need for constructive engagement with the ruling party to address public concerns and improve policies for the welfare of the people.
He commended his predecessor, Animesh Debbarma, for his efforts in championing public issues and pledged to continue advocating for the interests of the people in the assembly.
Speaker Biswabandhu Sen underscored the necessity of appointing a new Opposition Leader following the recent alliance between the TIPRA Motha party and the BJP-led government, signaling a new phase in Tripura’s political landscape.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura.
