With Covid-19 cases surging at an alarming pace in Tripura, State Chief Secretary JK Sinha chaired an urgent meeting with the Task force on COVID pandemic and issued advisories to avoid overcrowding, mandatory use of facemasks and fine for violators.
During the meeting, the Task force on COVID pandemic informed that, a new omicron sub variant is causing the spurt.
The virulence isn’t high as compared to earlier strains and there has been one death at the private ILS hospital. The Task force also informed that the virus is constantly mutating and the sub variants are causing the spurt.
It was also informed that though the virus variant has low virulence, the new variant is able to evade the vaccine and infect people.
Moreover the 21-30 age groups have the highest positivity rate with 27.45 percent. On the revenue fronts, the state has decided to impose Covid appropriate behaviours in shopping malls and fairs.
At the same time, RTPCR testing labs will be set up at every entry point in North Tripura.
