The minister revealed that Tripura currently attracts approximately 4.5 lakh tourists annually, including international visitors.
Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has expressed his vision of elevating the state’s tourism sector to new heights within the next two years.
Speaking to the media about the ongoing Promo Fest, Minister Chowdhury highlighted the government’s dedicated efforts to establish tourism as a thriving industry and a key contributor to Tripura’s economy. He said that over 80 tour operators from across India have participated in the event, a first in the history of Tripura’s tourism initiatives.
“This festival is an opportunity to showcase Tripura’s rich cultural heritage, stunning natural landscapes, traditional cuisines, and vibrant traditions to the world,” the minister stated.
Chowdhury underscored tourism as a viable alternative for self-reliant livelihoods, moving beyond government jobs. He shared that the state recently operationalized 50 new homestays under the tourism department, providing locals with new income opportunities. “Tourism is a great option to achieve sustainable livelihoods. Within the next two years, we aim to take this sector to another level,” he said.
The minister revealed that Tripura currently attracts approximately 4.5 lakh tourists annually, including international visitors. Significant improvements in transportation infrastructure under the present government have laid the foundation for further growth in tourist footfall. “We are making every effort to promote Tripura as a prime tourist destination. This year, we expect a record number of visitors,” he added.
Chowdhury credited the development of tourism infrastructure to the efforts of the ‘Double Engine’ government at both the state and central levels. He highlighted that the Promo Fest 2024 has been instrumental in presenting the state’s cultural wealth and potential to a larger audience.
Promo Fest 2024, inaugurated by Chief Minister Manik Saha on December 3 at Narkel Kunj, Dumboor, has been celebrated across multiple locations. The festival’s grand finale on December 14 will be a fitting conclusion with Shreya Ghoshal’s much-anticipated performance.
With a renewed focus on tourism, Tripura is set to position itself as a prominent destination, blending cultural richness and natural beauty with world-class infrastructure.
