Continuing its crackdown on border infiltration in Tripura, a joint team of the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), BSF and intelligence officials arrested 4 Bangladeshi nationals for illegally entering Indian territory in Tripura.
They were arrested at the Agartala Railway Station on Saturday night.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Zahirul Islam alias Jahir (42), resident of Dhaka, Dilwar Hossain (44), resident of Shariatpur, Jamirul Islam (27), resident of Panchagarh, and Mohammad Zia (35), resident of Jamalpur.
They were about to board trains to other cities, primarily Bengaluru and Chennai, said a senior GRP official.
Speaking to reporters, Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of the Agartala GRP station, said, “Based on secret information, four Bangladeshi nationals were detained at Agartala railway station during a joint operation. They entered India illegally and were planning to travel to different states by train. During preliminary interrogation, they revealed their intention to go to Bengaluru and Chennai.”
Inspector Das further stated that the joint operation was conducted meticulously and more arrests could follow as the investigation progresses.
