The infiltrators are suspected to be cadres of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) active in CHT of Bangladesh
In a significant development raising serious concerns over cross-border infiltration and internal security, thirteen illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators—including two women— belonging to the indigenous Mog and Chakma communities and suspected to be cadres of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) group active in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh have been detained.
There are also indications from across the border that the group may be associated with a newly-formed rebel outfit named Tripura United National Front (TUNF)—a claim yet to be officially verified.
They were detained by Amtali police from a house in the outskirts of Agartala late Tuesday night and after several hours of interrogation, the infiltrators were handed over to the Mobile Task Force (MTF) on Wednesday afternoon.
Police and security agencies interrogated the group for several hours before transferring them to the MTF, the force responsible for cracking down on illegal immigration in Tripura. The police have remained tight-lipped, and is yet to issue any official statement on the matter.
The group reportedly crossed into India illegally through Raishyabari in Tripura’s Dhalai district after a reported clash with Bangladeshi security forces.
Most of the male detainees were found with bandaged legs, suggesting recent injuries—further adding to speculation that they may have been involved in conflict prior to entering Indian territory.
Sources revealed that the group had been residing at the house of one Nityananda Biswas in Biswas Para near the Tripura Medical College in the Hapania area.
They allegedly travelled over 170 kilometres from the border to Agartala under the pretext of seeking medical treatment—raising serious questions about how such a large group, many visibly injured, managed to avoid detection at multiple police checkpoints and intelligence network.
The incident has sparked concern among security and intelligence circles, particularly regarding the efficacy of border surveillance and the growing threat of infiltration.
