Tripura: 11 Bangladeshi nationals arrested from Agartala Railway Station

As many as 11 Bangladeshi nationals, including 5 women and 6 men, were arrested from Agartala railway station for entering the country without any valid travel document, police said on Sunday.

As per inputs, they were caught attempting to enter India illegally to travel to various cities, including Bengaluru, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, and Odisha via train.

The arrested individuals have been identified as MD Sujan Rana (20), Azizul Shaik (30), Md Limon (19), Nargis Akhtar (34), Md Yosuf Ali (35), Md Sahidul Islam (26), Nipa Mandal (27), Akhe Begam (35), Omi Akhtar (35), Sajub Ali (19), and Asma Biswas (36).

Speaking to the media, Tapas Das, the officer-in-charge of the GRP at Agartala station stated that these individuals had crossed the border without valid documents and revealed during interrogation that they were planning to travel to various destinations: some to Kolkata, some to Bengaluru, some to Chennai, and some to Pune.

During the search, railway police found both Indian and Bangladeshi currency notes, along with documents confirming their Bangladeshi nationality.

A case has been registered at the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) police station, and the detainees will be presented before the court today, added Das.

Das noted that interrogation is ongoing to uncover the details of their entry into Tripura and to identify any individuals who assisted them in crossing the border.

The GRP officer acknowledged that infiltration continues to be a significant concern. However, he assured that security forces and intelligence agencies are collaborating to trace and arrest Indian accomplices involved in facilitating this illegal process. Many of these miscreants are currently in jail.

Over the past month, several dozen infiltrators and drug traffickers have been arrested by the GRP from Agartala railway station, indicating that Tripura is being used as a corridor for both infiltration and drug trafficking.
