"Madison County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death and mutilation of cattle along TX-OSR," the Facebook post read

Texas authorities are baffled after six cows were mysteriously found dead along a rural highway with their tongues cut out. What mystified authorities more was no sign of blood spilled.

Authorities in Texas were perplexed after six cows were found dead along a state highway in east-central Texas with their tongues “completely removed”. What left the authorities more clueless was that there was no sign of blood spilled, CNN reported, quoting authorities.

Ranchers in Madison County first reported a 6-year-old longhorn-cross cow lying on her side, dead and mutilated, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook on Wednesday. Similar mutilations were then reported across the state and efforts to coordinate between agencies were underway, the sheriff’s office said.

The animal’s tongue had been removed with surgical accuracy and “no blood spill”, the sheriff’s office said. The hide on one side of her mouth was also removed through a “straight, clean cut, with apparent precision”.

According to officials, the cows did not seem to struggle during the incident as the grass around the animal was undisturbed. No footprints or tire tracks were noted in the area, they added.

‘NO SIGN OF STRUGGLE’

“It was noted there were no signs of struggle and the grass around the cow was undisturbed. No footprints or tire tracks were noted in the area,” officials said.

The investigators learned of five other cows, also found in a similarly brutal condition, while looking into the longhorn-cross’ death. Each cow was from a different pasture and herd, and was found at a different location along the area of the state highway in nearby Brazos and Robertson counties, officials said.

On two of the cows, a circular cut had also been made, removing the anus and the external genitalia. “This circular cut was made with the same precision as the cuts noted around the jaw lines of each cow,” the sheriff’s office noted.

Ranchers also said there were no predators or birds trying to scavenge the remains of the cow, which decayed untouched for several weeks. An official cause of death has not yet been determined for any of the six cows.

“Madison County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death and mutilation of cattle along TX-OSR,” the Facebook post read.

It said its investigators are coordinating with unspecified “other agencies” to solve the mysterious case. Anyone with information about the jarring case is urged to contact investigators at 936-348-2755, The Independent said in a report.
