Heavy rains, thunderstorms and gusty winds continue to lash through various parts of eastern Assam and neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh. The inclement weather conditions have also led to destruction of infrastructure in interior areas.
For instance, a hanging bridge which was the lone mode of communication for the villagers of Wara village in Tinsukia district has been severely damaged due to the storm, thereby snapping communication for the villagers. Villagers have appealed for early restoration of the bridge.
Besides, several homes along the Assam – Arunachal Pradesh border have also been damanged in the storm.
Meanwhile, reports of a cloudburst followed by heavy rains and landslides have come in from Chameliang, an interior village in the Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The landslides have also damaged a water supply project creating a lot of hardships for the villagers. Anjaw district, which shares its boundary with China, is battling the natural calamity for the second time within a month’s time.
Movement of army and ITBP convoys towards the sensitive Indo-China international border has also been severely affected due to breakdowns at multiple locations. Many areas in Lohit, Changlang and Namsai districts too have come under the impact of the disaster. Due to uprooting of huge trees, power, communication and water supply lines have also been snapped.
