Three workers die while cleaning abandoned well in Tripura

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who is currently in Delhi, expressed condolences over the three tragic deaths on social media.

In a tragic incident, three workers died while cleaning an abandoned well in South Toibandal, Sonamura subdivision of Sepahijala district of Tripura on Saturday.

The three deceased have been identified as Ashok Tripura, Shambhu Kumar Debbarma, and Shukramoni Murasing.

As per inputs, the well at Neuramura J.B. School in Toibandal had been abandoned for a long time, rendering the water unusable for the students. To solve the issue, the three workers were engaged to clean the well.

Initially, one worker got down for cleaning the well but he didn’t respond after a considerable period. The two others then entered the well but they also stopped responding.

Following the incident, local residents immediately informed the Melaghar police station and the Fire Department.

Police officers, including OC Debashish Saha and personnel from the fire department, along with Sonamura Subdivisional Police Officer Sashimohan Debbarma, rushed to the scene.

The bodies of the three workers have been sent to the Sonamura Subdivisional hospital in Melaghar for post-mortem examination.

In a gesture of support, the Sonamura subdivision administration has provided an initial financial assistance of Rs 5,000 to each of the families of the deceased workers.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who is currently in Delhi, expressed condolences over the three tragic deaths on social media. He also conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved families.

Taking to X, Tripura CM wrote, “Today three youths named Shukramani Murasingh, Shambhu Devabarma and Ashok Tripura died in an unfortunate incident in Taibandal area of Dhanpur Assembly while cleaning a well. With the efforts of the local administration and the fire department, it has already been possible to recover the body from the well. I am deeply saddened by this incident and express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family.”
