Meghalaya DGP L R Bishnoi said that the attack was a pre-planned conspiracy to cause physical damage to the CM

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today said that acts of violence would not be tolerated and “the law will be very firm” on any act of violence. He said that there is a line which people should not cross, and this time the line has been crossed.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, CM Sangma said that he agreed to meet the members of A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) at their convenient venue since they had some concerns about Roster System and demand to declare Tura as the winter capital.

“Since these issues are sentimental issues, especially for communities in Garo Hills, so I agreed to meet them as I felt I want to be proactive in assuring that we (the Government) are able to resolve these issues and come to some kind of a solution. After sometime, we could hear some sounds of shouting and sloganeering outside the CM Secretariat. On checking what was happening, NGO leaders told me that they (the protestors) were not part of their group and that they have not seen them before. The group started stone pelting without any provocation from the police. So we all decided to stay back at the CM Secretariat,” said CM Sangma.

CM Sangma said, “We are quite certain that these are other elements which were not part of the group. Enough evidence and information is there and this have been investigated. A lot of arrests have already been made and the law will be very very firm on this as this is not acceptable at all.”

Asked if the attack was politically motivated, CM Sangma said, “There could be a political angle, there is no doubt about it”.

Asked if he thinks all recent incidents of violence in Tura and Shillong including the attack on Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh at her residence in the last few days are connected, CM Sangma said that these incidents are not connected at all. “These are all independent incidents for different reasons.”

Meanwhile, Meghalaya DGP L R Bishnoi in a press conference this evening, said that the attack was a pre-planned conspiracy to attack CM Conrad Sangma and cause physical harm to him and even go to the extent of murdering him.
