A day after six insurgents of the United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) laid down their arms before the Assam Police; the rebel group has issued a statement alleging the entire trail as a staged drama.
The ULFA-I also alleged that the six rebels backed by the police were on an extortion spree in the Tinsukia district from the past 8 months to malign the rebel group.
The six rebels were also allegedly involved in extortion activities at Lohit, Dibang, Namsai and Changlang districts in Arunachal Pradesh.
Earlier yesterday, Director General of Assam Police Kuladhar Saikia said that ULFA-Independent is now facing Internal conflict and dissatisfaction is brewing within the outfit.
The Assam DGP also said that ULFA-I is also facing difficulties to sneak into Assam because of sustained presence of security forces along the border.
